History of Q7

Q7 began in 1990, when then Chancellor Robert Corothers asked a Blue Ribbon Commission to evaluate State Universities' Campuses and Programs, and recommend quality improvement initiatives. Two approaches to improve quality resulted:
  1. Acceleration grants of $ 175 K per year
  2. New Ventures Grants of $ 100 K per year
were available for campuses, if solid proposals were handed in.

When all the meetings were met and prints were printed, the following seven INDICATORS OF QUALITY were defined to give campuses foci for their annual grant applications under the Acceleration aspect of the comprehensive Q7 picture. Here you see when SCSU applied for funding under the respective indicator.

Acceleration grants under Q7:

New Ventures Grants under Q7: Contact Dr. Marlene DeVoe, director You will notice that only four years of funding were granted for the Acceleration Grants. After FY 1996, a new "continuation" grant is in the works. A facilitation Team of members from all State Universities' Campuses and the Vice Chancellor for Acedemic Programs and IFO representatives met to come up with new grants. More about this soon, when we know whether the earmarked quasi-Q7 funding for FY 1997 and following is still available
