Ambassadorial and cultural scholarship competition on May 10, 2008 at the Radisson Metrodome on Washington Avenue in Minneapolis

For the 2008 competition, 17 applicants had applied by the published deadline of March 26, 2008 (http://fll.stcloudstate.edu/Rotaryindex/rotambsch08allcandidates.htm.htm). The main info page continues to be at http://fll.stcloudstate.edu/Rotaryindex/rotaryindex.html.

On 4/12/08  the District 5950 Ambassadorial Scholarship Committee met. Seven finalists were selected, and two alternates. Two of the original seven finalists had conflicts to meet the committee on May 10, and opted out. We need to make the deadlines better known in clubs to avoid scheduling conflicts of this nature. Both alternates were invited and on May 10, these seven met the committee.

(No means the applicant did not make the first cut on 4/12; declined means the applicant did make the first cut but declined to meet the committee on 5/10; alternate means the persons took the place of one who declined)

All applicants, seven finalists:

On 5/10 seven finalists (two cultural applicants, five full year amb. Applicants) met seven committee members (Kennedy, Wiant, Confer, Zaidi, Cavitt, Specht-Jarvis, Gerlach, Bruce Hedblom for Sandi Schley).  Committee members absent had excused themselves earlier for conflicts of scheduling. The committee met with each candidate for 30 minutes and asked the same 18 questions of them. The committee unanimously recommended the following winners to DG Chris and  incoming DG Sandy and requests forwarding the files to headquarters after the necessary signatures have been secured.

The committee also requests increasing the allocation from $ 85,000 to $ 88,000 to accommodate a 6-month cultural scholarship for one of the proposed winners, Andrew DÕAurora.
