Dear Aili, as long as we cannot find a working email option to communicate, I will post my responses to your emails here.
email sent Dec 16 to Center staff Elke:
Dear Elke, I am sorry to approach you with the same problem a second time.
Following your notification, Aili received a new email address at UC and
sent me an email. When I responded to her, the mail came back as undeliverable.
Our IT people tell me the name contains a (-) hyphen which may thow things
off. Would you be so good and hand Aili a copy of this email. I have sevreal
options for Aili that should allow us to communicate in both directions
soon.

Dear Aili, again you receive a response via the Center. As you can see below, the new email ID is not recognized at the Canberra Mail Inbox. It could be that the hyphen between the "Ai" and the "li" are illegal in names and cause problems when trying to respond to mail.

Dear Aili, I am very happy that you received my messages with the help
of the Center staff! When my responses to you kept coming back as “undeliverable”,
I was not sure anymore that I would be able to reach and respond to you.
I am happy that you have opened a new Australian email account. This week-end
we have graduation ceremonies at St. Cloud State University. So I will
be busy tomorrow, Sunday, to graduate MA and BA students.
Do you know the time lag between Canberra and Minnesota? We are Greenwich
time minus six hours. Canberra must be similar to Beijing, or not?
I will send this short note and hope it reaches you in good health and
a happy state of mind! I hope we can communicate about life in Australia
in the future. I know so little about the continent and its people. You
chose wisely to go to warmer climates!

Aili, there seem to be three possibilities for us at this point. 1. Change the ID at UC, 2. Try to use your hotmail account one more time, 3. Read my responses on a web-page that I created in St. Cloud.
1. When asking for a new ID from the Canberra IT people, be sure to ask
that no special characters be used except a period. Ailizhao@canberra.edu.au
would be a viable option. Aili.Zhao@canberra.edu.au should be fine also.
If the name of the email account is not the problem, then your space allocation
on UC's server may not exist.
2. You could try to use that hotmail account one more time. I could not
creae a hotmail accoount in your name and chose the new email service from
Microsoft. The service is now called Windows Live; until recently it was
known as www.hotmail.com. It is a free email service. Instead of www.hotmail,
I registered you with www.live.com. It is confusing: your account *is*
a hotmail account with a different address: live instead of hotmail.
2.1 type www.hotmail.com and hit the return key. This link should open:

will be added at the bottom. So scroll down.
4. If you send me an address in Canberra, I can send you US surface mail, in case email continues to fail.
